About

Keeping Heritage Alive.
Connecting It to the Future.

Folk Art People is a heritage and cultural initiative based in Thrissur, Kerala, dedicated to discovering, documenting, preserving, and reimagining the rich cultural traditions of our regions.

We believe heritage is not something that belongs only in museums, archives, or history books. It lives through people — in the hands of artisans, the stories of communities, the architecture of historic places, the rituals we inherit, and the artistic traditions passed from one generation to another.

Our work is about bringing these living traditions into meaningful conversations with the present.

Our Belief

Every region has stories worth preserving.

Every traditional art form carries generations of knowledge. Every historic building reflects the lives of the people who built and inhabited it. Every artisan holds a skill that cannot simply be recreated once it disappears.

Yet, as communities evolve and modern lifestyles change, many of these cultural assets are gradually losing visibility, relevance, and economic sustainability.

Folk Art People exists to help change that.

We bring together cultural knowledge, creative thinking, community participation, heritage conservation, and experiential tourism to create new possibilities for traditional culture.

What We Do

Discover & Document

We identify culturally significant art forms, traditions, crafts, stories, architecture, and places and work towards documenting them in meaningful and accessible ways.

Curate & Connect

We create curated cultural experiences that connect people with the stories, communities, and traditions behind a place — making heritage more engaging for both local communities and visitors.

Preserve & Promote

We support initiatives that help traditional arts, architecture, and cultural practices remain visible, valued, and sustainable for future generations.

Create Cultural Experiences

From heritage walks and cultural events to immersive tourism experiences, we transform regional stories into experiences that people can see, understand, participate in, and remember.

Build Communities

We bring together artisans, historians, architects, researchers, tourism professionals, cultural practitioners, institutions, and enthusiasts to exchange knowledge and create meaningful collaborations.

Our Approach

At Folk Art People, preservation does not mean keeping culture frozen in time.

We believe heritage must be allowed to evolve without losing its identity.

Our approach combines the authenticity of traditional knowledge with contemporary design, storytelling, technology, tourism, and community-led initiatives.

This allows us to create experiences that respect the past while speaking naturally to today's audiences.

Why It Matters

Cultural heritage is more than an aesthetic or a tourist attraction.

It represents identity, knowledge, craftsmanship, memory, and belonging.

When a traditional craft survives, a body of knowledge survives.

When a historic building is preserved, the story of a community survives.

When an artist finds a sustainable livelihood through their tradition, that tradition gains another generation.

We therefore see heritage preservation not only as a cultural responsibility, but also as an opportunity to create sustainable livelihoods, strengthen communities, and develop more meaningful forms of tourism.

Our Vision

Our Mission

A future where traditional arts, cultural knowledge, historic architecture, and local communities are not remnants of the past, but living and valued parts of contemporary life.

To connect people, communities, and organisations with the cultural heritage around them — and create sustainable pathways for traditional knowledge, arts, architecture, and experiences to thrive.

From Kerala to the World

Be Part of the Movement

Rooted in Thrissur, Kerala, Folk Art People begins with the extraordinary cultural landscape around us.

Kerala's folk traditions, performing arts, architecture, crafts, festivals, food, stories, and communities offer a powerful foundation for exploring how heritage can be preserved while creating new cultural and tourism opportunities.

Our ambition is to take this approach beyond individual places and projects — building a wider network that recognises, celebrates, and supports regional heritage across India and beyond.

Heritage belongs to everyone.

Whether you are an artisan, artist, historian, architect, researcher, curator, tourism professional, cultural organisation, institution, traveller, or simply someone who believes our traditions deserve a future, there is a place for you at Folk Art People.

Let's discover what is worth preserving, create new ways to experience it, and ensure that the stories of our communities continue to be heard.
